Madison Commissioners Meet Tonight

A variance request from Mike and Connie McGowan of Madison leads the list of business for Madison City Commissioners this Monday. That variance request was submitted in December, it asked for approval so the McGowan's could build a metal-sided garage at 521 South East 3rd street. Some property owners in the neighborhood have consented to the garage, however a letter objected the variance was submitted by Jeff and Roxanne Leightion, who also live on the 5-hundred block of South East 3rd street. The city planning commission denied the variance request, the City Commission will hear the appeal.

Also on today's agenda is the first reading of an ordinance that would add churches to the list of conditional use structures that are allowed in general business zones. The change in the ordinance was requested by Good Shepard Lutheran Church of Madison. The church is looking to purchase the old Job Service building at 120 South West 2nd street.

Commissioners will also consider declaring two electrical transformers as surplus property, consider the new hires at the Community Center, and consider approval of a plat for lot layouts at the Lakeview Industrial Park Addition.
