DSU, Other Universities get Money to Upgrade Science Labs

The South Dakota Legislature has given final approval to a $74.5 million bonding plan to construct and update science labs on the state's public university campuses.

The Senate vote 31-3 to pass HB1085, which passed the House earlier. It will become law if signed by Gov. Mike Rounds, who has supported the plan.

The Board of Regents says the improvements are needed to upgrade research, attract top-notch professors and enhance graduate programs.

Bonds would be issued to construct new buildings and renovate old buildings on all six campuses. The state would cover $32.5 million, and $42 million of the bonds would be paid off from student fees.
