City Commission gets Review of Explorer Program

The Madison City Commission got a visit from some special guests at Monday nights meeting. Madison Police Officer Jason Lurz, introduced high school students Patrick Delzer, Julian Freitag, and Matthew Wollman, as members of the departments Explorer Program. The Explorer Program has been in existence for one year, and is open to any youth between the ages of 14 and 20. Members learn police code and laws, self-defense tactics, and how to use special equipment. The program discuses career paths in law enforcement, in order to give students experience and an understanding of what life in law enforcement involves. Members meet with their mentors two times a month, and will soon begin riding in cars with Madison Police officers. Lurz says he hopes to continue, and possibly expand the program.

Also Monday Commissioners accepted a proposal from Sweeney Controls of Fargo, North Dakota for a new control system for the wast water treatment plant. The bid for the new control system was $87,900.
