City Commission Gives First Reading to Registration Ordinance

The Madison City Commission began its regular meeting Monday night as a Canvasing Board, and made official the results of last Tuesday's City Commission Election. Scott Delzer now has five days to request a recount of that vote.

The Commissioners gave the first reading to Ordinance 1457, which would require the registration of residential rental housing units. There would be no cost or fee associated with the registration. The Ordinance is intended to let the city know the number, and type of rental units within the city, in order to provide better health and safety services. A number of property owners in attendance expressed concern over the Ordinance. Some were concerned that this would led to building inspections by the city. The Commission will have a second reading of the Ordinance on May 5th.

The Commission also met as a board of Adjustment Monday, to hear an appeal request from Wayne and Peggy Hoeke to build a steel carport at 714 North Liberty Avenue. The appeal was approved, and a motion was made to include carports as a conditional use.

The Madison City Commission will meet again next Monday at 5:30pm.
