Commission Race Comes Down to Card Draw
Posted on Tuesday, April 29, 2008
The race for the 2nd and final seat on the Madison city commission will be decided today. The April 8th City Election left Monica Campbell with 506 votes, and Scott Delzer with 505. Delzer requested a recount on April 18th. That recount was held Saturday. The recount found that one ballot cast in Ward-1 was, for some reason, not counted by the tabulating machine. That one ballot gave Scott Delzer and Dick Ericsson one more vote. That pushed Ericsson's total to 710, and tied Delzer with Monica Campbell. City Finance Officer Jeff Heinemeyer said that the election will now come down to a drawing of lots. Heinemeyer says for this tie breaker, drawn cards. Delzer and Campbell will each draw a card from a deck, high card wins the seat. The drawing will be this morning at 10am in the city commission room. KJAM will broadcast the event live today, on Dakotas Best AM 1390.
