Stimulus Checks On The Way

Rebates that are part of a 160 billion dollar economic stimulus package will begin hitting the accounts of taxpayers with IRS direct deposit links this week. Carrie Resch of the I-R-S Regional office in St. Paul says checks will be sent through the regular mail beginning May 9th. Resch says the order of the stimulus payments will be based on the last two digits of a taxpayer's Social Security number, or in the case of a joint return, the last two digits of the primary taxpayer's number. She says the early payments will go to those with lower digits. A nationwide survey says a majority of the public claim they'll use the extra money to pay down debts, rather than put the money back into the economy by spending it.
