Fatal Bus Crash Investigation Complete

The South Dakota Highway Patrol has completed its investigation of the March 26, 2008 fatal bus crash in Lake County.

The investigation indicates, for an undetermined reason, the westbound vehicle driven by Lance Parliament, 24, of Sioux Falls crossed the center line and crashed into an eastbound passenger bus driven by James H. Quick, 60, of Alcester. Parliaments vehicle directly impacted the left front wheel of the bus, causing the bus to lock up and lose all steering capabilities.

Parliament died as a result of the crash. All people on the bus were transported to a medical facility for observation or treatment of injuries.

The Highway Patrols investigation included: accident reconstruction, alcohol and drug screenings, examination of cell phone records, and examinations of crash data recorders. Specific findings from each investigation tactic are below.
