Huron Ethanol Spill

Authorities including state officials and a Minnesota consulting firm are investigating an ethanol spill northwest of Huron, South Dakota. Beadle County Emergency Management Director Tom Moeding says ethanol from the Heartland Grain Fuels plant spilled over the weekend into a nearby creek, following an accident, of approximately 6000 gallons of Ethanol.

Moeding says one of the concerns is that the ethanol would make its way to Ravine Lake, a popular recreation area. He says if too much ethanol gets into that body of water, the alcohol could cause significant fish kills because it would rob them of oxygen and suffocate them.
