Potential Motives Mentioned By Prosecutor In Highmore Death Case

The prosecution in the Highmore shooting death of Pam Huber wants to introduce evidence at her husband's trial that he'd abused her, had romantic affairs and money problems.

Assistant Attorney general Patty DeVaney says those issues are relevant, and jurors should be allowed to consider them at Ken Huber's trial in September.

The former police chief has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and an alternate count of first-degree manslaughter for his wife's death last fall.

Defense lawyer Mike Butler says evidence about Huber's character should not be allowed.

Circuit Judge James Anderson agreed to move the trial to Fort Pierre after Huber's lawyers argued that an impartial jury could not be seated in Highmore.

Pam Huber, who was the city finance officer, was popular in the small and tightly-knit Hyde County community.
