Rape & Theft

A stolen video camera over the weekend began an investigation by Sioux Falls police that led to rape and other charges against a Mississippi man.

Information officer Sam Clemens says it began on Saturday when police were called to a west-side hotel where a video camera had allegedly been taken from a room by an intruder while the room was being cleaned.

Clemens says investigators believed the camera was taken by someone who had left in a taxi, so they pursued the cab to an address on South Regal Place.

Clemens says officers located the suspect and the stolen video camera, and after a short foot pursuit, 21-year-old James Roberts of Hattiesburg, Mississippi was arrested on charges of fleeing from police, resisting arrest, second-degree burglary, petty theft, second-degree rape and simple assault
