Motor Vehicle Record System Transfer Now Complete
Posted on Wednesday, July 2, 2008
South Dakota's more than four million motor vehicle records now officially have a new home. Over the past weekend, the records were transferred from the Department of Revenue & Regulation, Division of Motor Vehicles prior computer system to a new system called SDcars (South Dakota Customized Automated Registration System).
The SDcars' system was designed to handle the state's switch from a license plate with vehicle system to a license plate with owner system. The new system becomes effective today. Now that the conversion is completed, Division of Motor Vehicles Director Debra Hillmer says the true test will come during this first week of operation, and shes asking vehicle owners in the state to give her division and county treasurers some room to work out any issues that may arise with the new system.
