Pesticide Containers Need To Be Properly Recycled

South Dakota Department of Agriculture program specialist Charles King said just as in past years, producers have a no-cost option available through a South Dakota Department of Agriculture program to recycle empty pesticide containers.
Area times, location and dates for pickup are as follows:
Howard - August 11 9:00 a.m. to noon Cenex Agronomy Center
Madison - August 11 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Lake County 4-H Grounds
Flandreau - August 13 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Moody County Highway Department
Jim Wilson, South Dakota State University Cooperative Extensions pesticide education coordinator, said all containers that previously contained crop protection chemicals are accepted, provided they have been properly triple-rinsed or pressure-rinsed.
It is preferred that producers remove the lids, plastic sleeve labels, and any auxiliary paper label booklets at the time they rinse the containers. A single layer of glued-on paper label can remain on the containers. The most important thing is to have the containers properly rinsed, said Wilson.
