Organic Farming Tour Coming to Madison
Posted on Monday, July 21, 2008
Organic farming is expanding at a fast pace nationwide, and to help farmers and the public gain a better understanding of the industry, the Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society is holding its Summer Symposium and Farm Tour in Madison tomorrow.
The tour includes a visit to the Charlie Johnson farm near Madison. Johnson and his family have been raising crops and livestock the organic way for years.
Johnson and his brother farm 2,400 acres together. He says they've learned over the years that what has works best for them is good land rotation practices to control weeds and insects - instead of chemicals.
The symposium will be held at St. Peters Church located 8 miles south of the corner of Hwy. 34 and US Hwy. 81. The event begins with registration at the church at 8 a.m.
