Governor Seeks To Honor Fallen Soldier

Gov. Mike Rounds is asking that all flags in the state be flown at half staff on Friday, July 25, from 8 a.m. until sunset in honor of Staff Sgt. Jeremy Dale Vrooman, age 28, of Sioux Falls, who died Tuesday, July 15, from wounds received when an improvised explosive device exploded while his squad was conducting combat operations in Iraq.

Vrooman deployed on June 12th with Palehorse Troop, 4th Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment. His awards are many and include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart Medal, both awarded posthumously, Vrooman attended school in Lennox, S.D., and went on to earn his G.E.D. before joining the Army.
