Madison Police Department Warns of Phone Scam
Posted on Monday, August 25, 2008
Friday morning some Aberdeen residents received recorded phone messages that their debit and credit cards from their Credit Union were suspended, but the Credit Union President and CEO says the calls didn't come from them. This phone scam is meant to get people's account information and the scam is spreading across the state. Justin Meyer from the Madison Police Department says people should be aware of this scam. According to Meyer messages are being left on home phones, cell phones and On Star, telling people that their debit or credit card accounts have been deactivated. The person is then informed to call a number to reactivate the account. If a person has received this call and has followed the instructions, they should call their bank and notify them immediately. Meyer said the scam started in Aberdeen this morning and has since moved to the Huron area, but everyone should be aware of this scam as it is spreading across the state.
