Lake County Commissioner Leighton, Dies at 73

Lake County Commission Shirlee Leighton died early Tuesday morning, she was 73. A native of Junius, Leighton graduated from Beadle High School in 1953, and farmed along with her husband Richard for 40 years. They moved to Madison in 1995.

Leighton was a lake county commissioner for 18 years, while also serving as a past president of the Association of South Dakota County Commissioners. The current vice-chair for the Lake County Commission, Leighton had been reelected to the Commission in 2006.

A prayer service for Shirlee Leighton will be held Wednesday at 7:00pm, at the Weiland Funeral Chapel in Madison.
