Soldiers from First Battalion, 147th Field Artillery, and the 147th Forward Support Company have gotten the word they will be deploying again to Iraq and Afghanistan. More than four hundred sixty soldiers of the South Dakota National Guard Units will mobilize in April for another year of active duty.
National Guard Spokesman Major Orson Ward says their mission will be more than the security and training they did on the last tour.
Soldiers from units in Sisseton, Watertown, Aberdeen, Salem, Sioux Falls, Webster and Yankton will be mobilized. Ward says they should not be gone longer than a year.
This will be the fourth deployment of the 147th in the past seven years.
