Cause of Fire, Light

A fire that was reported shortly before 6:30 this morning at 523 South Washington Avenue, just north of Kotten Insurance and across the street from the Madison VFW Hall, is believed to have been started in the attic by a light that was being used when the property owner was insulating the area. No residents currently occupy the home. Madison Fire Chief Jerry Johnson estimates the cost of repairs from the blaze to add up to around $3,000-4,000. Johnson says the firemen had to cut a hole in the roof in order to ventilate the space, which added to the cost of repairs.
