Gehl Company says it has laid off 46-workers at its Madison plant indefinitely. The facility currently employs 371-people. In the news release, Plant Manager Dustin Williams says the cutback is due to a softening economy and slow sales of construction and agricultural equipment that is manufactured at the plant. The release says nothing about additional cutbacks, but several employees have told KJAM that their hours have been reduced and that there may be temporary plant closings. The Lake Area Improvement Association says it will work diligently with GEHL and other businesses in thecommunity and surrounding area to help with the situation.
