Preparedness Grants

Several area hospitals and clinics, including the Madison Community Hospital, are recipients of grants to help them with disaster preparedness efforts.

Governor Mike Rounds says the state has approved a $1,20,500 in such grants.

The grants are intended to increase the capacity of health care facilities to respond to any disaster with mass casualties.

This years grants will support ongoing health care planning for disaster response, development of mass fatality management plans and hospital evacuation, shelter in place plans, a statewide real-time bed tracking system and continuing exercises. The funding comes to the state Department of Health from the US Department of Health and Human Services.

The Madison Community Hospital will receive $17,000.

Other area Hospitals and clinics receiving grants include those in Brookings, Dell Rapids, DeSmet, Flandreau, Freeman, Howard, Parkston, Sioux Falls, Wessington Springs and Woonsocket.
