Committee Works to Improve Water in the Lakes

A major component of the effort to clean up the chain of lakes in the Madison area is to reduce the volume of nutrients flowing into the lakes from agricultural operations and from residential lawns and gardens.
Interlakes Water Quality Committee chair Robert Todd says that effort is already underway. He says the committee has encouraged the use of low phosphorus fertilizers and have provided rebates for the use of them.
Todd says the effort to create a water project district around the lakes continues. He says the committee plans to present petitions to the Board of Water and Natural Resources in March in order to have an election on the proposed district in May.
