Gehl Lays Off Again in Madison

The Associated Press reports that Gehl Company announced Monday it's cutting 62 salaried employees and 19 hourly employees because of the economic downturn in housing and construction.

The cuts represent about 18% of Gehl's 350 salaried workers in the United States.

Human resources vice president Brian L. Pearlman says most of those affected work at Gehl's corporate office in West Bend, Wisconsin, but the hourly layoffs are at the Madison plant.

Those layoffs follow the elimination of 46-hourly positions in Madison about six weeks ago.

Pearlman says employees were notified Monday and most received severance or early retirement.

Gehl manufactures compact equipment used in construction and agriculture.
