City To Discuss 2009 Sidewalk Plans at Tonight's Meeting

Monday's Madison City Commission will discuss the 2009 sidewalk project resolutions at tonight's meeting.

Hearings on those resolutions will take place at 5:35 p.m. The resolutions are requiring landowners on 8th St. N. from Washington Avenue to Prairie Avenue and landowners on West Avenue N. from 9th Street to NW 2nd Street to install sidewalks in front of their properties.

Landowners along 8th street have already submitted letters in opposition to the sidewalk installation. Reasons for their opposition includes their inability to install sidewalks due to the slope of the land and the fact that sidewalks would be in a place that would divide driveways or be in close proximity to homes.

The commission will also:

  • Hold the second reading of Ordinance 1476 to supplement the 2008 budget.

  • Authorize the mayor's signature on an agreement for a power factor study and an airport manager services contract.

  • Review recommended accounting changes from Audit Services.

  • Authorize change orders for projects on SW 3rd Street, Grant Circle, Division Avenue Improvements and the bid schedule for the wastewater plant improvements.

  • Approve city licenses, personnel changes and payroll changes for 2009.

Following open session discussions, city commissioners are to go into closed session for contract negotiations.
