Natural Gas in Odd Market
Posted on Monday, December 22, 2008
Worries about soaring natural gas prices have evaporated as prices for the heating fuel have fallen by more than 60 percent.
Clyde Gross is Senior Natural Gas Manager for Northwestern Energy. He says it's an odd market with increased demand and lower prices.
Gross says they tried to lock in gas at market prices from late summer into fall and that has worked against them this year.
He says consumers could see their unit price fall, but their monthly bill could be up.
Northwestern has storage for only about 6 to 8 percent of its yearly demand.
The company serves 42,000 customers in South Dakota, including those in Madison and 40,000 in Nebraska.
