Dakota State University will not offer the degree, but DSU will not be left out of the Master of Science in Physics program approved by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
Under the plan, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota will each offer a Master of Science degree in physics.
DSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Cecelia Wittmayer says Barbara Szczerbinski, who studies neutrinos and teaches physics at DSU, has Associate status on the grad faculty at the School of Mines and may teach some classes in the program.
The three institutions will share responsibility for course delivery, and students enrolled at one institution will take courses regularly taught by faculty from the other universities.
The degree will be offered beginning fall 2009.
