City Sales Tax Collections Up In Madison
Posted on Thursday, January 8, 2009
Good economic news in Madison.
Sales tax collections in Madison for the calender year 2008 were up 9.2%, compared to calender year 2007.
Madison Mayor Gene Hexom says high gas prices earlier in the year may have helped encourage residents to shop locally.
A comparable number is not yet available for the state of South Dakota because sales tax filings are not due until the end of the month. Revenue officials say that sales tax collections for 2008 will be up compared to 2007, but will not be as much of an increase as originally projected.
