Senator Russ Olson says that he would like the State of South Dakota to follow the federal lead and begin to emphasize renewable energy and environmental issues.

Olson says he is going to try to get the Republican leadership to begin that process in the 2009 Legislative session by adding an energy component to the Senate and House Commerce Committees.

Olson will chair the Senate Commerce Committee this term and will serve on the Senate State Affairs and Senate Education Committees.

The 2009 session begins next Tuesday the 13th.
