SD Public Power

The Madison City Commission has decided to let the South Dakota Public Power Authority keep Madison's share of what's left of the Authority's funds.

Madison, Yankton, Brookings, Howard and several other towns formed the Authority when NorthWestern was going through bankruptcy in order to explore buying the company's South Dakota and Nebraska assets.

Madison City Finance Officer Jeff Heinemeyer says Madison contributed about $7,500 to the effort. Madison's share of what's left is $1,866.20. It will go to pay attorneys for their services to the Authority.
